1. What is it?

Reminder Settings configures email reminders for bookkeeping, tax deadlines, and newsletters. Reminders are sent at 9:00 AM WAT (West Africa Time) and can be customized by frequency, preferred day, and tax type. The page also controls newsletter preferences for feature announcements, service updates, and incident notices.


2. How does it work in Finora?

2.1 Email Notifications (master toggle)

Master switch for all email reminders. Turning this off stops all reminder emails. - Status: Enabled (checked)

2.2 Bookkeeping Reminders

  • "Get regular reminders to record your transactions and keep your books up to date"

2.3 Tax Pre-Filing Reminders

  • "Get reminders before tax deadlines to ensure your books are ready for filing"
  • Lead time slider: Send reminder 7 days before deadline (range: 3–14 days)

Tax types (all enabled):

Tax Type Deadline
VAT Returns Monthly, 21st of following month
WHT Remittance Monthly, 21st of following month
CIT Computations Quarterly and annual deadlines
PAYE Returns Monthly, 10th of following month (if employees exist)

2.4 Newsletter Notifications

All enabled by default:

4. Nigerian regulatory context

Tax filing deadlines in Nigeria are strict with penalties for late filing. The tax pre-filing reminder system helps businesses prepare their books before the filing deadline, reducing the risk of late filing penalties.


5. Common customer questions

Q: "I'm not receiving any reminder emails."

Check: (1) Is the Email Notifications master toggle enabled? (2) Check your spam folder. (3) Verify your email address in Profile Settings. If all are correct, escalate to Tier 2.

Q: "Can I change the reminder time from 9:00 AM?"

No — reminders are sent at 9:00 AM WAT for all users. This is not configurable.

Q: "I don't want tax reminders but I want bookkeeping reminders."

Uncheck the individual tax types (VAT, WHT, CIT, PAYE) in the Tax Pre-Filing Reminders section while keeping the Bookkeeping Reminders frequency set to your preference.


6. Known edge cases

Tax reminders for exempt businesses

A small company exempt from VAT and CIT will still receive tax reminders if the checkboxes are enabled. Agents should advise customers to uncheck tax types they don't need.


7. Escalation trigger

Escalate to Tier 3 (Founder) if: - Reminders are enabled but not being delivered

Escalate to Tier 2 (Support Lead) if: - Customer wants to unsubscribe from all emails (NDPR compliance) - Customer receives reminders after disabling the master toggle
