OCR Scanner¶
Last reviewed: 2026-03-31 · Nnamdi
Status: Coming Soon (feature temporarily unavailable)
Route: /ocr
1. What is it?¶
The OCR Scanner is an AI-powered document recognition tool that automatically extracts data from receipts, invoices, bills, and other financial documents. A user uploads or photographs a document and the OCR engine reads the content — amount, date, supplier, line items — and pre-fills a transaction form (expense, bill, etc.) ready for review and posting. This eliminates manual data entry for paper-based documents.
2. Current status¶
As of 2026-03-31, the OCR Scanner page at /ocr displays:
"Feature Coming Soon" "We are making improvements to our OCR Document Scanner to provide you with a better experience. This feature will be available soon." "The OCR Scanner will automatically extract data from your receipts, invoices, bills, and expenses using AI-powered document recognition."
The feature is temporarily unavailable. The underlying capability exists in the mobile app (receipt photo capture creates AI-drafted transactions in Drafts) and on individual expense/bill forms (file attachment with extraction). The standalone /ocr scanner page is under improvement.
3. What customers should use in the meantime¶
While the standalone OCR Scanner page is unavailable, document capture still works through:
- Mobile app — photograph a receipt from the mobile app; the AI extracts the data and creates a draft in Transaction Drafts (
/drafts) for review before posting - Expense form — when recording an expense at
/expenses/new, upload the receipt document; the attachment is stored against the expense record - Bill form — when creating a bill at
/bills/new, upload the supplier invoice document - Transaction Drafts — AI-created transactions from the mobile app land here for review before posting to the GL
4. Common customer questions¶
Q: "Where is the OCR Scanner? I can't find it."
The OCR Scanner at
/ocris currently showing "Coming Soon" while improvements are being made. For now, you can photograph receipts in the mobile app (they create drafts automatically) or attach documents directly when recording an expense or bill.
Q: "Will OCR scan multiple documents at once?"
The planned feature supports single-document scanning with AI extraction. Batch scanning is not confirmed. Check back when the feature goes live.
5. Escalation trigger¶
Escalate to Tier 2 (Support Lead) if: - Customer specifically needs bulk document import / OCR for a large backlog of receipts - Customer needs an ETA for the feature — do not promise dates; escalate for an official response
