Certification Requests

Last reviewed: 2026-03-31 · Nnamdi Status: Known Bug — Request buttons do not open a form (redirect to /reports) Route: /certification/requests

1. What is it?

Certification Requests is where a business submits requests for formal certification or audit of its financial statements. A certified financial statement carries an accountant's or auditor's sign-off that the figures are a true and fair representation of the business's position — required for bank loans, investor due diligence, regulatory submissions, and formal tenders. This feature allows businesses to request and track the status of those certification engagements within Finora.

2. How does it work in Finora?

2.1 The Certification Requests page (/certification/requests)

Header: - Heading: "Certification Requests" - Subtitle: "Track your financial statement certification and audit requests" - New Certification Request button

Tabs:

Tab What it shows
All All certification requests regardless of status
Active Requests currently in progress
Completed Requests that have been fulfilled

Empty state: "No Certification Requests — You haven't requested any financial statement certifications yet." with a Request Certification button.

2.2 Submitting a certification request

Known Bug (as of 2026-03-31): Both the "New Certification Request" button in the header and the "Request Certification" button in the empty state currently redirect to /reports (Financial Reports page) instead of opening a certification request form. The form is not accessible via either button.

Workaround: Until the bug is fixed, customers who need financial statement certification should escalate to Tier 2. The Support Lead can coordinate directly with Finora's partner accountants.

When working correctly, the flow is expected to: 1. Click New Certification Request 2. Fill in the certification request form (type of certification, period, purpose) 3. Submit — the request appears in the Active tab with a status 4. Finora routes the request to a certified accountant or auditor 5. Completed certifications appear in the Completed tab with the certified documents

3. Business rules & constraints

Rule Detail
Feature is currently broken Both request buttons redirect to /reports instead of opening a form — escalate all requests to Tier 2
Requests are tracked by status Active (in progress) and Completed (fulfilled)
Certification is separate from the financial reports The financial reports at /reports are self-generated — certification involves a professional sign-off

4. Nigerian regulatory context

Why businesses need certified financial statements

  • Bank loans: Commercial banks in Nigeria (e.g., GTBank, Access, Zenith) require certified financial statements for loan applications above certain thresholds
  • CAC filings: Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) requires filing audited accounts annually with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) for companies above the small company threshold
  • FIRS audits: FIRS may request certified accounts during a tax audit as evidence of the declared tax base
  • Tenders and procurement: Government contracts and large private-sector tenders require certified audited accounts as part of pre-qualification

Who can certify in Nigeria - Financial statements must be signed by a registered member of ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) or ANAN (Association of National Accountants of Nigeria) - The certifying accountant must be independent of the business

5. Common customer questions

Q: "I clicked 'New Certification Request' but it took me to Financial Reports. Is that a bug?"

Yes — this is a known bug as of March 2026. Both request buttons are incorrectly redirecting to the Financial Reports page. Please escalate to our support team who will assist you directly with your certification request.

Q: "What's the difference between the Financial Reports I generate myself and a Certification Request?"

The Financial Reports (P&L, Balance Sheet, etc.) at /reports are self-generated statements produced from your Finora data. A Certification Request engages a qualified external accountant to review your accounts and sign off that they present a true and fair view — this is required for bank applications, CAC filings, and formal tenders.

Q: "How long does certification take?"

Do not quote timelines — escalate to Tier 2 for an accurate estimate based on the scope of the engagement.

6. Known edge cases

Request buttons redirect bug

As documented above, both "New Certification Request" (header) and "Request Certification" (empty state) currently navigate to /reports instead of opening a form. This affects all users. Escalate to Tier 3 to report.

Typo in empty state

The empty state text reads "You haven requested any financial statement certifications yet." — missing apostrophe in "haven't". Cosmetic issue, no functional impact.

7. Escalation trigger

Escalate to Tier 3 (Founder) if: - Customer reports the request buttons redirecting (confirm bug is still active — it may be fixed in a later release) - A completed certification request document is missing or inaccessible

Escalate to Tier 2 (Support Lead) for ALL certification requests until the bug is fixed: - Any customer who needs a financial statement certification — Tier 2 will coordinate the engagement manually

8. Last reviewed

2026-03-31 — Nnamdi. Verified against production. Certification Requests page confirmed: All (0) / Active (0) / Completed (0) tabs. Empty state reads "No Certification Requests" / "You haven requested any financial statement certifications yet." (typo confirmed). Bug confirmed: both "New Certification Request" (header) and "Request Certification" (empty state) redirect to /reports instead of opening a form. Neither button is functional. All certification requests must be handled manually via Tier 2 escalation until fixed.
