API Credits

Last reviewed: 2026-04-01 · Nnamdi Status: Complete Route: /api-credits

1. What is it?

API Credits is Finora's prepaid balance system for verification services. Businesses purchase credit packages and spend them on TIN Verification (checking supplier/customer Tax Identification Numbers against the NRS database), Employee NIN Verification (validating National Identification Numbers for PAYE onboarding), and Mono Bank API calls (connecting bank accounts for automatic transaction syncing). Credits cost ₦200 per verification, never expire, and are purchased via secure payment processing.

2. How does it work in Finora?

3. Business rules & constraints

Rule Detail
Credits never expire Purchased credits remain available indefinitely
₦200 per verification (flat rate) All three services cost the same per call
VAT added at checkout Credit package prices are + 7.5% VAT
Auto-credited after payment Credits are added to the balance automatically upon payment confirmation
Credits are non-refundable Once purchased, credits cannot be refunded (escalate exceptions to Tier 2)
TIN Verification used throughout the app When adding customers, suppliers, or employees, TIN/NIN verification consumes credits
Mono API calls are "Coming Soon" The Mono bank connection feature is not yet live; credits for it are pre-sold

4. Nigerian regulatory context

TIN Verification

Every Nigerian business and individual taxpayer has a Tax Identification Number (TIN) issued by NRS (formerly FIRS) or the relevant SIRS. Verifying a customer or supplier's TIN ensures: - Correct WHT certificate issuance (TIN required on certificates) - Accurate TaxPro-Max return schedules (TIN required for VAT/WHT returns) - Compliance with NRS record-keeping requirements

NIN Verification

The National Identification Number (NIN) is issued by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). For PAYE purposes: - Employees must have a valid NIN for tax payer registration - NIN verification during onboarding ensures the employee's identity and tax records are correct

Mono Bank API

Mono is a Nigerian open banking infrastructure provider. When live, the Mono integration will allow businesses to: - Connect bank accounts via bank login - Automatically sync daily transactions - Eliminate manual CSV/Excel statement uploads

5. Common customer questions

Q: "How do I verify a customer's TIN?"

When adding or editing a customer/supplier, enter their TIN and click "Verify TIN." This consumes 1 credit (₦200). You need credits in your balance before verification will work.

Q: "What happens if I run out of credits?"

Verification services will fail with a "no credits" error. Purchase more credits from the API Credits page.

Q: "Do credits expire?"

No — credits never expire. Use them whenever you need.

Q: "Why are all three packages ₦200 per verification? Is there a bulk discount?"

Currently all packages have the same per-verification rate. The packages differ in total credits purchased, not unit price.

Q: "I purchased credits but my balance didn't update."

If payment was confirmed but credits aren't showing, wait a few minutes for the system to process. If still not updated, escalate to Tier 2 with the payment reference.

6. Known edge cases

All packages have the same per-verification cost

There is no volume discount — Starter (₦5,000/25), Professional (₦10,000/50), and Enterprise (₦20,000/100) all cost ₦200 per verification. The package tiers are for convenience of purchase, not pricing advantage.

Mono API credits pre-sold

Credits for Mono Bank API calls are available for purchase even though the Mono integration is not yet live ("Coming Soon" on the Bank Accounts page). Customers who purchase credits for Mono will be able to use them once the feature launches.

"Perfect for small businesses" on all tiers

All three package cards show "Perfect for small businesses" — this is a display issue and should differentiate by tier.

7. Escalation trigger

Escalate to Tier 3 (Founder) if: - Credits were purchased and payment confirmed but balance not updated - Verification service fails despite having credits

Escalate to Tier 2 (Support Lead) if: - Customer needs a refund for purchased credits - Customer needs a larger custom credit package beyond Enterprise (₦20,000) - Customer's TIN/NIN verification returns incorrect results
